Tracing highways through the Deep South, I followed Hwy 33 to Hwy 61 past Fayette and Natchez before crossing into Louisiana. On 61 South, just twenty miles north of Baton Rouge, I came across a group of Black riders on horseback—keeping alive a tradition deeply rooted in Southern Black culture. They shared news of an upcoming Louisiana rodeo, a gathering where community, heritage, and horseback riding take center stage. Another weekend to celebrate the rhythm of the South and capture it through the lens.
