THE STORY

Music Through the Viewfinder

I have always aimed to photograph the best musicians in the United States. This goal is personal and meaningful. It represents a way to use my talents to impact the world positively. I also celebrate the richness and diversity of black culture and music.

To achieve this goal, I dedicate myself to perfecting my craft. I stay up-to-date with the latest trends and techniques in photography. I also work hard to build relationships with industry professionals. I strive to make a name for myself in music photography.

Battling the 500-Year Flood: Baton Rouge’s Resilience in the Face of Disaster

(image on right) Baton Rouge Flooding Captured” by Mr. Don M. Green. Published in Bloomberg Business Week / August 2017

As a photographer, I knew I had to document the 500-year flood in Baton Rouge. I drove around the city and reached Winbourne and North Foster.

When I saw rescue boats heading into the floodwaters, I knew I had to act. It wasn’t easy. The rescue boat was packed with people. There wasn’t much room for me and my camera gear. But I managed to squeeze myself and my equipment onto the boat. We set off into the floodwaters.

African – American Life photographer

As an African American photographer capturing protests in Baton Rouge after the police shooting of Alton Sterling, I learned several lessons that will stay with me for the rest of my life. Here are a few of the most important ones:

  1. The power of community
  2. The importance of documentation
  3. The need for compassion
  4. The value of perspective
  5. The importance of being present
